If the hydrogen economy is ever going to become reality, we will need a way to store the stuff without having to compress it to dangerously high pressures. The gas could then be fed to fuel cells to power the phones, laptops and automobiles of the future. A technique may now be coming together in a Dutch lab, in the shape of a material in which billions of carbon buckyballs are sandwiched between sheets of graphene, which is another form of carbon.

This could benefit many people around the world if it succeeds because we will get away from the expensive and unpredictable fuel source we have now. 

The only disadvantage I can come up with is the amount of time and money spent on experimenting with this new technique and it becoming a complete failure.

Now that more or less everyone uses cellphones to tell the time, watches have been relegated to mere decorative pieces. At least that’s what it seems like with TokyoFlash watches, which look great but are practically impossible to read. Their latest watch design is the Fire.  It is definitely amazing since it wraps around your wrist and flashes multi-colored LED lights to tell the time. Each hole indicates one unit of time yellow LEDs are the hours, red LEDs show every ten minutes and green LEDs show single minutes. Who wants to actually take the time to figure that out? Especially for a price of around $130. I mean you could look cool with this watch on if people actually knew it was a watch to begin with. I just think $130 dollars is not something to play around with these days. Even on a watch that would take three minutes to read!

Researchers at Hanyang University in South Korea have developed new Lithium batteries that can last a whopping eight times longer than today’s models. They’ve achieved this by using cathode materials in the batteries, replacing less-efficient graphite with more-efficient silicon. It’s all very scientific, I’m sure, but it all boils down to this: you’ll be able to watch more movies on your laptop on an airplane before your computer dies and you get stuck reading a book. Everybody wins! The only bad thing may be the price going up a little. There is no word on price adjustments. Im sure it wont change too much though!

These simple Mobile Lights hang from the ceiling from fishing line to create a glowing kinetic sculpture with the size and shape of your choosing. Each piece is equipped with a solar panel that lights up the LED’s and an AA battery backup, absorbing light during the day and emitting it at night. But what’s more impressive is that the Mobile Lights can actually be purchased.

The bad part is even though you can pick them up, they are quite expensive. Pick up three for about $200….pricing that easily puts that first demo installation into the heavy thousands. That is definitely not cheap and if you were to purchase these; i’d assume you would need more than just 3?

The guest speaker mentions HIM is leading the way. That good health depends on reliable information. Health care is based on accurate and timely information. HIM professionals are ready to be the driving force in changing healthcare. National healthcare is imperative for the U.S.

I unfortunately do not have any interest in Health Information Management at this time. I am aware that it is a growing field and it would assure me of a great future, but I want to use my computer obsession towards something else in Informatics.

One reason is since they surround us everyday it only makes sense to be computer literate just to get things done in a days work. Many jobs are upgrading to computers to get things done easier and quicker.

That leads in to my second reason; jobs using more and more computer electronics.  Since I am currently going to school to study computers and how to use them more effectively, I know this for a fact.  For example; there are many jobs opening for individuals who know computers so well that they can use them to help the business make more money and the consumer understand things much easier and faster than ever before.

My final reason may not fit everyone that is reading this, but I find computers to be an awesome hobby.  There is practically an endless amount of things you can do with them.  Having an obsession to want to learn about computers and how they work benefits someone in many ways. It opens a lot of doors if you are a student in school too.  When I was a young teen I always loved computers.  It was not until I was a senior in high school that I built one for a project and fell more in love.  Since then I have built five different types, from the typical low-end to the high-end gaming computers cooled by water instead of fans for extreme performance.

See; computers do not only surround me and they surely do not only strike my curiosity.  They were invented for a reason, to make our lives less stressful and help us advance.  So pick up a hobby if you do not already have one.  They will make you feel better about yourself and they may even change your life.

In researching affective computing I found a couple benefits to me and many others.  One area that it can be used is in car safety.  Affective computing can interpret the emotional state that a driver is in to warn other drivers if they are tired or angry for example.  Another area it can be used is in mp3 players.  Have your mp3 player equipped with affective computing and it can determine key songs to match the mood you are in.

Some disadvantages to affective computing would have to be the obvious annoyance it could bring if it never worked properly all the time.  Always interpreting the incorrect instead of the correct. Another would have to be the price.

A software like this would not be cheap. So to see advantages or disadvantages to this would only be acquirable if you have enough money to fork over for the software. Then if you finally got the amount of money needed to purchase this software, would you really need it?

DARPA is spending a good amount of money experimenting with ways to create a light weight airplane that can fly straight into the water.  They do not plan on it being in the water for long periods of time, however. 

I believe if this can be pulled off it could beneficial in air traffic control. The only way i can see it going bad is basically during the time in which they switch modes from air to water. If they can pull that off to where it can be safe every time, then it could be a hell of an achievement.

These are just a few examples of how the Internet can be used to judge or discriminate people. Should people be penalized for their content online? Is this an issue of others trying to take away certain freedoms?

I do not know of any other examples other than these so I will opinionate against these. I do not think someone should be suspended due to something written out of school and away from those certain rules. Same goes for Tom. How can his school have the right to expell him due to a picture he posted online, far from that very school?  As for Bill, I can totally see where he is coming from. He is the employer and his company resides on smart decisions. I do not know how he happened to come across the graduates Facebook, but it is definitely something that an employer can take the wrong way.

The kids attending the schools do not get to set regulations on what the adults do outside of school and in their personal lives. So why should the schools be able to penalize the kids for something not even legally their right to do? I guess we will all have to learn from the bad things that can come from the internet?  Will we will all have to become responsible for what we leave behind on our personal-internet-social-lives that is becoming increasingly more popular each day?

That is the question of the day, week, month, year+. Until we can see what other consequences the internet can bring us with its future.
